Our approach

Solir represents a fresh take on solar heat-gain prevention using its ThermeShade technology. This ‘shading layer’ increases visibility while reflecting heat producing infrared energy, allowing for effective temperature control without compromising natural light. It reduces demand on HVAC systems by lowering energy consumption and thereby promotes environmentally responsible building practices.

How does Solir cool?

Infrared energy is more intense than visible light energy. We want to encourage visible light for daylighting and health but detour the energy that passes through the glass and heats the interior. To control that infrared energy from over heating buildings, we have adopted and modified materials used by the aerospace industry for space travel. Our advanced material reflects over 50% of the infrared energy from the sun.

What is it and where does it go?

Our material is thin, flexible, durable and perforated. It’s about the same thickness as a couple of pieces of note paper. To reflect that infrared energy before it heats the building interior, it is suspended inside a room next to the window glass . Generally it is fashioned into a non-retractable hanging panel, a roller shade, or inserted into a frame for skylights. Perfect as a retrofit solution because it fits behind existing window treatments.

How does it cut glare?

After heat, glare is the biggest complaint from building occupants. The round holes in the perforations complement the way our eyes function. 60% of the glare is reduced to let our eyes relax and improve visibility. Most shades are woven into a tight square pattern which blocks light and makes the view fuzzy.

Privacy and Security

During daylight hours the material is white or opaque from the outside. When viewed from the inside, as in the video above, it is transparent. This feature can have an important benefit in educational, commercial and residential settings. Office workers and residents appreciate the privacy without compromising the daylight or view.
